The Ven. Thomas Benson
CONGREGATION: St. John’s, Bangor

BIOGRAPHY: Convention
Secretary for the past eight years and previously an Assistant
Secretary for eight years. Tom has been an active member of St. John’s
for forty-seven years where he was ordained a Perpetual Deacon on June 3, 1978.
He has served the Bishop and the Diocese as the Episcopal Chaplain at the local
Bangor hospitals for twenty-five years. Tom also served as a Staff Chaplain at
Eastern Maine Medical Center for three and a half years. He serves on the
Chaplain’s Advisory Board at EMMC; the Bangor City Nursing Facility Advisory
Board for ten years and is currently serving a three year term on the Board of
Trustees of the newly formed Bangor Nursing and Rehab Center. He is the
Archdeacon for the Pastoral Support of the Deacons of the Diocese and Chaplain
for the Retired Clergy, Spouses and Survivors of the Diocese.

Mr. Kenneth E. Barrett
CONGREGATION: St. George’s, York Harbor

BIOGRAPHY: Ken is a retired executive
from the machinery manufacturing industry. He and his wife Eve worship at St.
George’s in York Harbor where he has served on the vestry, as treasurer, and
chairman of the capital campaign. Currently, he is a member of the Stewardship
Committee. At the diocesan level, he has been a member of Council, and is now a
Trustee, a member of the Finance Committee and Trustee and assisting with the
capital campaign.

Delafield (three year term)

NOMINATED BY: The Vestry of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, Cape

BIOGRAPHY: Audrey Delafield is a gifted minister of the Gospel, a person
of extraordinary integrity, and she lives her Christian faith daily. Her
commitment to our diocese and her many gifts make her an ideal candidate for
service on the Standing Committee. Audrey was ordained to the deaconate in 1988
at St. Alban’s Church, where she has served as deacon assistant ever since.
She has been the Episcopal chaplain at the Maine Medical Center since 1989. In
1998 Bishop Knudsen appointed Audrey Archdeacon for diaconal formation, in which
capacity she serves on the Deacon Formation Advisory Council. For 12 years she
was on the Committee on Holy Orders (COHO) and served at various times as Chair
and Co-chair of that committee. She has been on the Standing Committee since the
beginning of the year when she was elected to complete the term of a clergy
person who has left the diocese.
The Rev. Susan Murphy (elected to fill term until 2005)

BIOGRAPHY: The Reverend Susan Murphy, a graduate of the Episcopal
Divinity School, has served the Diocese of Maine in many capacities since her
ordination in 1999. As part of a team ministry that serves five congregations in
the Aroostook Cluster, Susan shares her gifts of facilitation, administration,
and spiritual counsel in ways that foster and strengthen the mission and
ministry of the Cluster. Currently, Susan is a member of Diocesan Council,
Finance Committee and the Clergy Day Committee. She formerly served on the
Committee on Baptismal Ministry and continues to be the trainer for Lay
Eucharistic Ministers throughout the Diocese. Susan is a strong supporter of
diocesan youth events and has served for three summers at Believe It or Not
Camp. A former educator, she has 28 years experience as a teacher, counselor and
school administrator as well as a community organizer. She would bring to the
Standing Committee a passion for the spiritual renewal and growth of all the
Baptized, skills in collaborative leadership and a strong commitment to the
Diocese of Maine.

Mr. Durward Parkinson
CONGREGATION: St. David’s, Kennebunk
NOMINATED BY: St. David’s Church, the Rev. Daniel J. Riggall, the Rev.
Michael Ambler, and the Rev. Paige Blair
BIOGRAPHY: Durward Parkinson, a member partner with Bergen and Parkinson
attorneys at law, is an active member of St. David’s Church, having served as
a Vestryperson, Warden, Co-chair of the Search Committee, chair of the Finance
Committee and member of the Stewardship Committee. In the diocese, Durward is a
delegate to Diocesan Convention and is a member of the Resolutions Committee for
this year’s convention. He was also the consultative attorney for the
negotiations to unite St. George’s and Trinity Chapel in York Harbor. In the
larger community, Durward is pro bono legal council for "Casinos No"
and a counsel attorney for the town of Wells, having argued the widely published
Wells Beach case before the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. He is trustee of
Laudholm Trust and a former board member of River Tree Arts. He is a member of
the Board of Corporators of Kennebunk Savings Bank and former President of the
Kennebunk Free Library and Greater Portland Landmarks.

Dr. Harold H. Brown "Brownie"
CONGREGATION:

BIOGRAPHY: "Brownie"
has a long and varied experience in the church. He has served the church at
congregational, diocesan and national levels. "Brownie" has been a
warden and vestry member in several congregations, a lay reader and chalice
bearer for more than 35 years and a member of several search committees. He has
18 years of experience as a member of the Standing Committee, chaired the
Diocesan Finance Committee for 12 years, been a member of Diocesan Council,
served as a vacancy consultant and chaired the Companion Diocese Committee.
"Brownie" has been to seven General Conventions, served as a nine year
member of the trustees of General Theological Seminary, three year member of
Council for Development of Ministry and vice chair of the State of the Church
Committee. "Brownie" was the recipient of The Fred C. Scribner Awardin
1997.
Mr. Witt K. (Ken)
Cochrane
CONGREGATION: St. Saviour’s,
Bar Harbor
NOMINATED BY: Acadia Regional
Council
BIOGRAPHY: Through prior
terms on Diocesan Council, Ken has shown that he can meet the sizeable
commitment in time and travel, regular attendance and thorough preparation. To
those requirements he will add demonstrated experience and enthusiasm. His
current service to the Church includes Diocesan Coordinator for Episcopal Relief
and Development, acolyte, lay reader, lay Eucharistic minister and food pantry
volunteer. Ken is a member of Cursillo and completed the Education for Ministry
course. Prior experience includes two terms on Diocesan Council including a term
on Finance Committee, Co-Chair of Commission on Outreach and Services, alternate
to diocesan conventions, and Staff Print Officer for 2000 General Convention. At
St. Saviour’s, Ken served on the Vestry, Stewardship Chair and other
committees, and led development of the master plan for restoration of the church
exterior and grounds, serving as well as project manager through completion.
Mr. Christopher Pottle
CONGREGATION: Christ Church, Norway

BIOGRAPHY: Chris has been
active in the parish, in the community and in the diocese. His keen
mind, generous nature and his energy are valued by his congregation. He
has been active in the Episcopal Church for years: at Cornell University’s
chaplaincy; as treasurer, developer and chairman of the Commission on Peace
and Justice in the Diocese of Central New York; as a
delegate from Christ Church, Norway, to Diocesan Convention; as a
member of Christ Church’s Outreach and Planned Giving Committees and parish
ERD representative; as officer and Treasurer of the Episcopal Peace Fellowship.
Chris went to Yale and the University of Illinois (electrical engineering)
and taught at Cornell. His mother was born and grew up in Oxford, Maine,
and his father grew up in Otisfield. Before he moved back to Maine in
1997, Chris had spent summers here. Chris will be a conscientious and thoughtful
presence among Diocesan Council colleagues.

The Rev. Charlene Alling
CONGREGATION: St. John’s, Bangor
NOMINATED BY: The Wardens and Vestry of St. John’s, Bangor
BIOGRAPHY: Charlene has served churches in the Dioceses of Maine,
Virginia and Pittsburgh. She served as rector of Parish of St Mary and St Jude,
Northeast Harbor, and most recently served St. John’s, Bangor, as acting
priest for four months from June-September 2003 during the rector’s
sabbatical. Her Diocese of Maine experience includes; Ecclesiastical Trial
Court, Diocesan Council, Finance Committee, Committee on Holy Orders, Loring
Fund Committee, Diocesan Consultant. Other dioceses; Diocesan Council, Holy Land
Committee, South African Partnership, Cathedral Chapter and Personnel Committee,
Committee on Aging. Her education consists of; Colby College, University of
Connecticut, University of Glasgow, Claremont Graduate School and Yale Divinity
School. She is associate of Society of St. John the Evangelist; spiritual
director. She has been a Priest for 13 years, and lives in Bar Harbor, currently
caring for infirm parents.
The Rev. Kristin "Kris" Orr
CONGREGATION: St. Patrick’s, Brewer

BIOGRAPHY: Kris is a priest with a variety of experiences. She has keen
insight, excellent processing skills and an inquiring mind. She has been a
member of the Diocesan Stewardship Committee since 2002 and currently serves as
co-chair. Kris is also a member of the Diocesan Committee on the Environment and
the Planning Committee for Province #1 Convocation on the Environment. She also
has served as Priest on staff at Maine TEC#1 (Teens Encounter Christ).

BIOGRAPHY: Ann is a long-time Episcopalian with an extensive knowledge of
the church and its traditions and structure. She has been a member of St. John’s
choir for more than 20 years, a member of the vestry and is the stewardship
chair. Ann also has been a delegate to numerous diocesan conventions, member of
the Diocesan Stewardship Committee and a member of Regional Council # 42.

The Rev. Levering Sherman, Jr.
CONGREGATION:

BIOGRAPHY: It is our pleasure to re-nominate the Rev. Sherman as Clerical
Deputy to Province I and the Provincial Synod, representing our diocese. He is
currently serving in this position, and previously served as Clerical Alternate
to this body. He has expressed to us his enthusiasm in continuing to represent
the Diocese of Maine in this "larger church" body. Lev has served the
diocese in the past as: first chair and organizer of the Communications
Committee; Chair of the Technology Committee; Commission on Diocesan Operations;
Committee on Aging; Committee for Missions; Board of Directors of the Diocesan
Resource Center; consultant in interim ministries (Central Maine congregations).

Ms. Betty Norburg
CONGREGATION: St. James’, Old Town
NOMINATED BY: Ann Dieffenbacher-Krall, Senior Warden, St. James’, Old
Town and Jean Marie Boddy-Johnston, Vestry Member, St. James’, Old Town
BIOGRAPHY: Betty Norburg has a long history of dedication to her parish
and the diocese. Her experience and wisdom are greatly valued by our parish and
would be an asset to the Provincial Synod. Betty is intellectually curious and
often sheds new light on old discussions. She is eminently sensible. Betty has
served as senior warden and president of ECW for the parish. For the diocese,
she has served as secretary of the ECW, delegate to the triennial ECW
Convention, and member of the Bishop’s Task Force on AIDS. She is diocesan
coordinator of the Church Periodical Club, and is a frequent attendee of the
Provincial Convocation.
